Complements of hyperplane arrangements are combinatorially well-behaved and geometrically the "simplest" type of affine varieties. It is also known to be closely related to the geometry of hypertoric varieties, a hyperKähler analogue of toric varieties, whose cohomological and categorical invariants provide important representation-theoretic and physical information. In this talk, I will introduce a symplectic approach toward understanding of "hypertoric category O" and its universal deformations. This is based on the joint work with Sukjoo Lee, Yin Li and Cheuk Yu Mak.
