Process Monitoring and Water Quality Control in Drinking Water Treatment in Hong Kong

All raw water undergoes stringent water treatment process and disinfection at water treatment works in Hong Kong before supplying to consumers. Stringent water treatment combined with comprehensive monitoring of water quality and key process parameters at every stage of the treatment process are essential steps in water quality control and safeguarding the drinking water quality.  Apart from the conventional treatment process comprising coagulation/flocculation, clarification, filtration and disinfection, relevant process parameters to ensure the performance of advanced treatment technologies including ozonation and biological filtration for water quality control would be introduced in the presentation.

Water Supplies Department, the Government of the Hong Kong SAR

Mr. HO Sing Yiu is a Senior Waterworks Chemist of the Water Supplies Department, HKSAR. He is responsible for monitoring of water quality in particular the radioactivity levels, trace organics and inorganics in the drinking water supply system in accordance with the relevant standards/guidelines. He has years of experience in drinking water quality control and water treatment including advanced treatment technologies such as ozonation and biological filtration.
