The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which is the largest biomedical research agency in the world and the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research.
Investigator-initiated projects supported by the Research Project Grant (R01) must be related to the stated program interests of one or more of the NIH Institutes and Centers (IC) based on their missions.
Project Duration
Applications are generally awarded for 3 – 5 years.
Funding Limit
Not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
Eligibility
Non-U.S. Entities (Foreign Institutions) are eligible to apply.
Agency Deadline
New grant applications: 5 Feb, 5 Jun and 5 Oct
AIDS and AIDS-related grant applications: 7 May, 7 Sep and 7 Jan
Internal Deadline
Two weeks before the agency deadlines.
