Call for Proposals - Batch 5 R&D Projects of HKUST-Bright Dream Robotics Joint Research Institute (HBJRI)
HKUST-Bright Dream Robotics Joint Research Institute (HBJRI) cordially invites HKUST faculty to express interest in the themes and topics released by the Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics Co. Ltd. (BDR), and submit project proposals.
This batch of call for proposals has 2 categories: Frontier exploration and Pre-defined research topics
Faculty may propose frontier research topic(s) that fall under any of the following themes:
Safety risk perception and identification
Fatigue calculation and simulation technologies
Adaptive control algorithm
Life prediction of key components
Energy supply technologies for robots
Pre-defined research topics:
Study on key technical issues of plastering robot and mortar
Application Study on fusion perception method in outdoor construction site scenarios
Study on real-time dense 3D reconstruction technology for construction site environment
Research and application on the integration of BIM data and mobile map engine
Study on intelligent coding technology of BIM model components
Material protection solution for the overall frame and friction track of the self-lifting building construction platform
Testing and risk assessment on exterior wall painting robot
Sound recognition algorithm for hollow detection
Testing and risk assessment on lithium battery
Development of key technologies for wallpaper stitching and external/internal Corner (“Yin-Yang” Corner) Paving
Study on FRCC permanent form as protective layers of reinforced steel involved in structural stress
Remarks: English versions of the topics are for reference only. In case of discrepancies, the Simplified Chinese version shall prevail.

Technical details of the pre-defined research topics
Available upon expression of interest
Typically around 1 year (including R&D and acceptance testing by user; depending on project requirements)
Typically around HK$2 - 3.5 million per project (depending on project nature and duration)
- Faculty express their interest by contacting HBJRI via email@example.com. Details of the projects will then be released to those who show interest.
- HBJRI will facilitate communication between HKUST faculty and BDR R&D teams on the project’s research direction and technical specifications
- Faculty can then submit a full proposal for panel selection and review after confirming contents with BDR R&D team.
