The 11th Multi-Hazards Summer School (July 29–August 1, 2026) will be hosted and organized by the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University, as one of the activities under the APRU Multi-Hazards Program, which harnesses the collective capabilities of APRU universities to advance cutting-edge research on DRR and recovery. This year’s focus is “From Science to Society: Advancing Disaster Risk Reduction for a Resilient Future.”
The Summer School aims to equip students and early-career researchers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to advance DRR through effective collaboration between science and society. Through interdisciplinary learning, case studies, and field-based experiences, the program will foster understanding of the science–policy–society interface and enhance participants’ ability to translate scientific evidence into actionable strategies for building resilient communities.

The Multi-Hazards 2026 Summer School consists of a 3-day seminar and a site visit to the area affected by the 2011 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
