Seminar: Investigation of Domestic Ocean Dynamics Laboratories
Organizer: The Institute for Cross-sea Engineering and Integrated Transportation (ICE-IT), HKUST(GZ)
Abstract:
In recent years, with the implementation of the national marine development strategy and the construction of a number of cross-sea infrastructures such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the inadequacy of China’s basic marine engineering research has become increasingly apparent. In the long run, marine engineering is an important link to a maritime power and an infrastructure for the development and utilization of marine resources. Enhancing the basic theoretical research around marine engineering has a bearing on the effectiveness of marine development and is very important to the long-term development of China's undertakings. To this end, the team of Prof. Quanke SU from the Institute of Cross-sea Engineering and Integrated Transportation of HKUST(GZ) organized a survey and visited eight units in Nanjing, Tianjin, and Qingdao from August 15 to 23, including the world's largest scale wave flume, the “13th Five-Year Plan" National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure -- the largest wind-wave-current basin in China, etc. The research materials were compiled by Dr. Zongxian SU and Zhuowei ZHOU (Ph.D. candidate). The sharing seminar will be hosted by Principal Engineer Rui CHAI and presented by Zhuowei ZHOU.
BIOGRAPHY
Zhuowei ZHOU is a Ph.D. candidate of the Dalian University of Technology. He holds an M. Eng from the Dalian University of Technology and a B. Eng from Tsinghua University. His research interests include the interaction between waves and offshore structures and the nonlinear evolution of ocean gravity waves. The current research focuses on nonlinear waves and oceanic rogue waves. The research results have been published in OMAE, a top international conference in the field of ocean engineering and have been included in the corresponding journal. Mr. ZHOU has been engaged in physical modeling experiments related to marine engineering for many years and has a deep understanding of research work in this field.
