The short course will be an interactive session that will delve into the fascinating world of wireless power technology, including near and far field and their applications. We will also explore the first-generation wireless power technology (magnetic induction) and its limitations, and how the second-generation technologies overcome them.

We will discuss in detail Magnetic Resonance and RF wireless power transfer – technology fundamentals, ideal use cases, system development, applicable regulatory considerations, and the process for building and integrating wireless power in products. We will briefly discuss emerging technologies and he challenges involved.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta
AirFuel Alliance

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the President and Chairman of the AirFuel Alliance, an industry standards organization for realizing our dream of a world without wires. Currently, he is also an Adjunct Professor in the IoT Thrust, Information Hub, HKUST(GZ). Dr. Sanjay is an entrepreneurial technology executive with expertise in conceptualizing and launching innovative hardware, firmware, and software systems solutions. He has led the development of over 100 commercial products including several industry firsts – smartphones with dual-mode phones with WiFi and VoIP; Android smartwatches; wireless charging systems for laptops; etc. In addition to leading AirFuel Alliance, Dr. Sanjay is an angel investor and a mentor to several early-stage startups. 

 

Dr. Sanjay has headed Product Management and Engineering at multiple startups and launched the world’s first wireless charging laptop, in shoe force monitoring system,  and led the creation of epidermal electronics -- electronics are thin, stretchable, and flexible and have the same mechanical properties as that of human skin. Previously, Dr. Sanjay was Vice President of Product Management and Development at Motorola where he led the commercialization of consumer electronics products for wearable and mobile devices and accessories markets. Before joining Motorola, Dr. Sanjay was an Electrical and Computer Engineering professor at Illinois Institute of Technology. 

 

Dr. Sanjay holds over 25 patents and has over 40 publications in archival journals and leading academic conferences. He received his Ph.D. in Systems and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
