ECE Seminar - Applications of AI in Smart Cities and Healthcare

11:00am - 12:00pm
Classroom 5510 (via Lifts 25/26)

Applications of AI in smart cities and healthcare need to be safe, secure, accurate, and robust. We are investigating and developing deep-learning (DL) based methods that work with practical systems. Our research is exploring challenges associated with accomplishing real-time interaction between physical objects, data processing, communications, DL-inferencing, edge computing, and actuation. The studies are based on video monitoring using the smart-city COSMOS testbed deployed in New York City and on videos of robotic-assisted surgeries and peripheral edema. Real-time latency targets are highly dependable on the details of a use case, and truly fast responses cannot be achieved by off-the-shelf AI methods. To target very low latencies, we explore the customization of methods for data collection, communication, DL inference, and integration with the rest of the physical systems.
