ECE Seminar - Energy-Efficient Power Management ICs for IoT Applications
With the increasing popularity of advanced portable and wearable IoT devices, the design of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) has become more-than-ever challenging. On one hand, the performances are required to be high, such as fast responses with good efficiency and low stand-by power, in order to meet the fast-changing loading conditions. On the other hand, the cost is required to be effective, particularly with compact chip area and small number of external components, limited by the IoT device sizes. To address these demands, novel PMIC designs are required. In this talk, selected works developed by our research group will be sketchily presented, including fully integrated LDOs, ultra-low-power voltage references, switching converters, and wireless power transfer circuits. Each design achieves one or few unique features to fit for different application scenarios. Some ongoing works will be outlined as well.
Chenchang Zhan received the B.Sc., M.Sc. (from Fudan U.) and Ph.D. (from HKUST) degree in 2004, 2007 and 2011, respectively. He was a Post-doc research associate with HKUST from 2011-2012, and a Senior Engineer with Qualcomm, San Diego, CA, from 2012-2014. He then joined the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China in Aug. 2014, and is currently an Associate Professor with its School of Microelectronics.
Dr. Zhan works on the analysis and design of power management integrated circuits with an emphasis for mobile applications. Up to date, he published 1 book, >95 papers, and was granted with 14 China and 6 US patents. He received Best Paper Awards in a few conferences, including the IEEE ISIC’2009, EDSSC’2010, ISCAS’2011, and EDSSC'2018. He also got the 2018 SUSTech Young Faculty Research Award and the 2019 SUSTech Excellent Teaching Award. He served as a TPC member for IEEE ICTA’2018-2023, and a reviewer for quite some journals and conferences. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
