Department of Mathematics - Mathematics Colloquium - Quasi-periodic Schrödinger operators

3:00pm - 4:00pm
Lecture Theater D (near Lift 22)

Early in the 1980s, there was a rapid advancement in the study of almost (quasi-)periodic operators, prompting Barry Simon to state that "there is an almost-periodic flu." Since then, this "flu" has recurred on multiple occasions, leading to numerous breakthroughs in the study of this class of operators. However, there are still some longstanding problems remain unresolved, and new questions continue to emerge. In this talk, I will address some recent progress and propose several old and new questions.

Prof. Jiangong YOU
Nankai University

Prof. You earned his PhD from Peking University in 1989 and has been a Distinguished Professor at the Chern Institute of Mathematics, Nankai University, since 2017. He has made significant contributions to mathematical physics and dynamical systems, which have been recognized internationally. Notably, he delivered a 45-minute talk at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2018) and a one-hour plenary talk at the International Congress on Mathematical Physics (ICMP 2024). He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the First Prize of the Natural Science Award from the Chinese Ministry of Education (2016), the Second Prize in China's State Natural Science Award (2001), the Qiushi Outstanding Young Scholar Award (2000), and the Mathematics Award from The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS Award 2024).
