This talk explores how virtual reality technology can transform the way we experience and interact with art. We will journey through virtual reality art exhibitions and discuss the potential for this technology. We will also go through numerous VR examples to engage in the concept of “story-living.” Ultimately, participants will consider the transformative power of virtual reality in shaping our relationship with art and culture in the digital age.

Hsin-Chien Huang, a new media artist, is adept at combing VR, interactive installations, performing arts, and power machinery to explore greater possibilities for human life through technology. He also is a distinguished professor in the Department of Design at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). In recent years, Huang’s revolutionary VR works have attracted international attention and won a variety of awards. His VR feature film “La Camera Insabbiata”, made in collaboration with Laurie Anderson, the godmother of American avant-garde music, won the Best VR Experience Award at the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017. “Bodyless” won an Honorable Mention at the 2020 Ars Electronica Festival and the Golden Mask, the highest honor, at the Newimages Festival in Paris. His outstanding international performance continued in 2021, when his new work Samsara won the Jury Award at the Texas SXSW Festival in the United States, Grand Prize for the Best VR Narrative in the XR category at the Cannes Film Market in France and Honorary Mention in the Computer Animation category at Prix Ars Electronica.
