Maintainability of Facilities
This seminar focuses on the maintainability of facilities, with particular emphasis on the occurrence, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of common defects affecting major components, including wet areas, façades, basements, common areas, roofs, and mechanical and electrical (M&E) services. The seminar also discusses the implications of material selection in achieving high maintainability and promoting Green Facilities Management (Green FM). In addition, a comprehensive Maintainability Website, featuring a defect library, material manual, non-destructive testing resources, and a maintainability scoring system, will be presented. Michael Chew is a professor and Head of the Department of the Built Environment at the College of Design and Engineering, National University of Singapore. He has authored more than 200 publications and is the author of 4 books recommended as texts in many overseas and local institutions. His R&D on construction and building material testing and product development has resulted in six patents awarded in the US and Singapore, and he has seen his products licensed and commercialised, with his R&D brought from the laboratory to on-site applications including airports, buildings and infrastructures both local and overseas.
