HKIE Materials Division: Best Paper on Materials 2026 Competition

Organized by: The Materials Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)

1. Aims

The competition is designed to encourage students and professional engineers to showcase their projects in Materials Science, Technology, and Engineering to the Hong Kong engineering community. We aim to foster a deeper interest in the field and promote the innovative, sustainable, and strategic use of materials across all engineering disciplines.

2. Eligibility and Rules

• Open to: All full-time and part-time Undergraduate and Taught Postgraduate students enrolled in tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, as well as Research Postgraduates and Professional Engineers.
• Submission: Applicants must submit a formal paper or a final year project (FYP) report, published or unpublished paper, on any topic related to Materials Science & Engineering.
• Validity: The submitted project must have been completed after August 2025.
  
  

3. Award Categories & Prizes

A prize of HK$5,000 will be awarded to the winner in each of the following four categories:

1. Undergraduate and Sub-degree (e.g. Diploma to Bachelor)
2. Taught Postgraduate (e.g. MSc/MA)
3. Research Postgraduate (e.g. MPhil/PhD)
4. Open Category (All Engineers)
   
   

4. Application Process

5. Important Dates

• Submission Deadline: 1 June 2026
• Oral Presentation (Shortlisted): 8 June 2026 (Monday, Online)
