In this talk, Dr. Rose Zhu will share her 8-years career as a full-time editor and what role does she see a high impact journal should play. Along with that, she will introduce the innovations Watt is doing to bridge academia with industrial partners, working together towards turning science into reality.
For those who is new to Watt, it is a journal that aims top impact, and covers energy and sustainability science from fundamental to applied, from preliminary ideas to a real solution.
* After the talk Rose offers the chance for a face-to-face discussion whether your paper can get a chance to publish with Watt.
Please bring your best research for the discussion.
In her 8-years editorial career, Dr. Rose Zhu lead and participated the launching of six international journals including the Cell Press journal Joule, where she served for 5 years and the first four Next Journals (Next Energy, Next Materials, Next Nanotechnology and Next Sustainability) of Elsevier acting as the Editor in Chief. In April 2025, she moved to Hong Kong to launch the journal Watt, a partnership journal between 21C lab and SpringerNature.
Dr. Zhu obtained PHD degree in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore followed up by Postdoc in National University of Singapore, University of California, San Diego (United States) and University of Freiburg (Germany). Her research expertise lies in electrochemistry, nanomaterials, and their energy applications. Dr. Zhu has published 15+ papers as first author in energy storage and conversion areas.
In her editorial career, she has handled more than 3000 papers covering broad energy topics for Joule including but not limited to Catalysis (electrocatalysis, photocata lysis, therma l cata lysis,bio-catalysis etc.), Energy Storage and Conversion (rechargeable batteries, metal-air batteries, flow batteries, aqueous batteries),Renewable Fuels and Feedstock, Electric vehicles, Best protocols of energy performance measurement, Energy Policy and Economic Analysis, Photovoltaics, Thermal energy, Energy Efficiency, Water-energy nexus (seawater resources, solar steam generation, water desalination, water harvesting etc.).
During working for the Next journals, she broadened her journey handling more sustainability related areas such as Climate Change and the Environment, carbon capture, storage and utilization, decarbonizing the hard-to-abate areas etc.
