Screening and Sharing: The Way We Talk 《看我今天怎麼說》
HKUST Connect and Shaw Auditorium Unit are pleased to co-host a screening of The Way We Talk (《看我今天怎麼說》), a powerful film that explores the complex lives of three young deaf individuals, directed by director Mr Adam WONG Sau-ping (黃修平導演).
The story follows these three young people as they navigate their unique journeys of self-discovery. This event aims to promote inclusion by providing insights into the complexities of 'deaf identity' from various perspectives. The film also challenges societal norms and envisions alternative linguistic identities. Through their shared experiences, the film encourages us to reflect on our understanding of identity and the value of embracing diverse perspectives.
Having premiered at the 68th BFI London Film Festival last October as an officially selected film, we are excited to bring this impactful movie to the HKUST community. Following the screening, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in a post-screening sharing by Director Adam Wong.

Wolf, born into a Deaf family, embraces sign language with confidence despite obstacles in life; Sophie, having a cochlear implant at a young age, continuously strives to be seen as "normal", despite struggling with oral language. Alan, with a cochlear implant like Sophie, is capable of both oral and sign language; he advocates for diverse modes of communication within the deaf community. Bound by love and friendship, the three embark on a self-discovering journey with their own moments of pain.
三位⾚誠的聾⼈⻘年：⼦信來⾃聾⼈家庭，雖然⽣活滿是障礙，卻⽤⼿語活出⾃信。素恩⼩時候植⼊了「⼈⼯⽿蝸」，艱⾟學習及採⽤⼝語，努⼒地去做個「正常⼈」。Alan也⽤⼈⼯⽿蝸，⼝語能⼒跟素恩相若，亦懂得⼿語，是⼦信的莫逆之交；他認為聾⼈應盡⼒與不同⼈溝通，開拓世界。友情把三⼈連上，撞得彼此遍體鱗傷 ，卻引領著⼤家去探索⾃我。
Remarks:
- The screening is for HKUST students and staff members only.
- Free admission. Online registration is required and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Successful registrants will receive a confirmation email. Each successful registration will be allocated 1 admission ticket.
- Tickets will be distributed at the cinema on the event day between 6:45-7:25pm to successful registrants with their valid HKUST ID card. All seats are marked. Seating will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Tickets not collected by 7:25pm will be released to registrants on waiting list on site.
- Shuttle bus service from HKUST to Po Lam is provided on a first-come-first-served basis. Details will be sent to successful registrants later.
- A HK$200 administration fee will be charged for each no-show or seat cancellation within 24 hours before the screening. If the registrant cannot attend the event, please send an email to connect@ust.hk to release the seat as soon as possible.
