Overview

This one-day symposium's overall objective is to bring world-renowned stem cell scientists to Hong Kong to exchange their latest breakthroughs and discoveries with local scientists, postdoctoral fellows and postgraduate students. It also seeks to facilitate the dissemination of information to diverse academic communities, promoting interdisciplinary communication and collaboration. Additionally, a significant focus of our symposium is to foster interaction and encourage collaborations between local and international scientists.

We are honored to host world-renowned international stem cell research leaders, namely Prof. Allan SPRADLING (Howard Hughes Medical Institute/Carnegie Institution of Science, USA), Prof. Duanqing PEI (Westlake University), Prof. Micheal RUDNICKI (Ottawa Hospital Research Institute/University of Ottawa, Canada), Prof. Fiona WATT (EMBO/EMBL, Germany), and Prof. Weizhi JI (State Key Lab of Primate Biomedical Research/Kunming University of Science and Technology, China), who will share their exciting findings during their visit to HKUST. In addition, this symposium will also attract stem cell biologists, postdoctoral research fellows and postgraduate researchers from other local universities and research institutes in Hong Kong. This presents a remarkable opportunity to bring together leading scientists in this field at our university for scientific discourse and collaborative endeavour.

In this symposium, we will cover many aspects of the study of stem cells including:

  • Stem cell-niche interactions;

  • Stem cell self-renewal and lineage differentiation;

  • Tissue regeneration and repair;

  • Human disease modeling;

  • Stem cell therapy.
