This talk will provide an exploration of AI literacy and upskilling, drawing from experiences in academic libraries but offering insights applicable to all types of librarians and educators.
It will cover findings from a comprehensive study on AI literacy among U.S. academic librarians and share details of a successful upskilling program implemented at The University of New Mexico.
Attendees will learn about the current state of AI integration, challenges, practical applications, and ethical considerations.
Duration: 35-minute talk followed by a 25-minute Q&A/Discussion session.
The 25-minute Q&A/Discussion session aims to foster an exchange of insights on the AI landscape in Hong Kong and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
Dr. Leo S. Lo (盧世豪) is the Dean/Professor of the College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM). He provides leadership for advancing AI literacy and workforce upskilling, emphasizing the integration of AI in academia and beyond. His work focuses on developing AI competencies, ethical guidelines, and training programs for library and higher education professionals. As the current President of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), Dr. Lo has established a national task force to develop a set of AI competencies. Dr. Lo holds a doctorate degree in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania.
