Public Research Seminar by Sustainable Energy and Environment Thrust, HKUST(GZ) - Electric Vehicle Charging Dispatch in Low-Carbon Energy and Transportation Systems
To address the urgent threat of climate change, worldwide efforts have focused on green energy transitions aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and creating sustainable futures. With the development of transportation electrification and renewable energy integration techniques, the energy and transport sectors will play pivotal roles in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating global climate change. This seminar will present research on low-carbon energy and transportation systems, focusing on challenges such as efficiently coordinating these systems and enabling EV charging to support grid operation while considering EV users' preferences. Specifically, we will first present a communication-efficient coordination method between energy and transportation systems. Then, we will introduce an interpretable modelling mechanism for EV users' ambiguous preferences. Finally, we will discuss a novel preference-constrained stochastic optimization model that enhances renewable energy utilization in an unbalanced three-phase distribution network while meeting user preferences and charging demands. The results demonstrate significant improvements in renewable energy utilization and user satisfaction. These findings highlight the potential of EV charging dispatch to enhance renewable energy integration, promoting a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Dr. Xiangyu Li received his Ph.D. degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he was a Research Associate for one and a half years. He is currently a Research Associate in Smart Grid and Sustainable Energy Systems at the University of Sydney. His research interests include renewable energy trading, battery energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and the application of optimization theory, game theory, and computational intelligence in these areas.
