Professor Kai-Lung Hui is the Head, Elman Family Professor of Business, and Chair Professor of the Department of ISOM at the HKUST Business School. He is also the Director of the Center for Business and Social Analytics (CBSA) and Academic Director of the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA program. Professor Hui’s research interests include Fintech, IT policy, and electronic commerce. He has provided expert advice and consultancy services to various government and non-government organizations and companies.

Recent advances in machine learning and AI have facilitated the analysis of complex problems using large-scale secondary data. In this talk, Professor Hui will review common machine learning (ML) and AI techniques, including generative AI, and showcase how they can be applied to scrutinize real-world problems by leveraging big data analytics in a social setting. He will compare the strengths and weaknesses of different ML and AI approaches and draw related managerial and analytical insights from several projects conducted in the Center for Business and Social Analytics in the HKUST Business School.
