This seminar will delve into the progression of digital twin technology, starting from its inception to its current state-of-the-art applications. To illustrate the practical applications of digital twins, this talk will present examples from urban and academic settings, showcasing how cities are leveraging this technology. A focal point of the seminar will be a detailed case study of the digital twin marine platform for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This case study will provide insights into how digital twin technology is applied in a marine context to address complex challenges, improve marine environmental monitoring, and facilitate better decision-making for sustainable development. The seminar aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of digital twins, their potential for transformative impact across various sectors, and the future direction of this innovative technology.

Dr. Weitao Che
Thrust of Urban Governance and Design, HKUST(GZ)

Dr. Weitao Che is a Product Expert at digital twin company and also serves as an Assistant Professor of Practice in UGOD at HKUST(GZ). He received his PhD in GeoInformation Science from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where he also worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science. He has been an Associate Researcher of Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT). He has also interned at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Currently, he is the vice president of Hong Kong Young Scientist Association, a committee member of the Virtual Geographic Environment Professional Committee of the Chinese National Committee of the International Society for Digital Earth (CNISDE) and an expert for the City Information Modeling (CIM) Think Tank. His research interest includes 3D GIS and virtual geographic environments, CIM and digital twins, as well as mobile sensing.
