Sign Language: Understanding Diverse Needs in Workplace and Classroom

The workshop is tailored for HKUST staff. Participants will learn the basics of Hong Kong sign language in a fun way to enhance communication skills at the workplace and foster inclusivity. It also promotes understanding of the deaf community and encourages our staff to create a more inclusive workplace for people with different abilities.

Objectives 

  1. To develop awareness and appreciation for individual differences and promote social inclusiveness; and 

  1. To learn about how to communicate with people with diverse needs at the workplace; and 

  1. To enhance understanding among colleagues while learning sign language together. 

 

Content 

  1. Sign language expressions in the classroom and workplace;

  2. Sharing of the experiences and challenges for fostering an inclusive environment from a university student with hearing impairment;

  3. Ways to support students with hearing impairment in tertiary education.
