Call for Proposals – RGC Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2022/23 and Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG)

RGC is calling for proposals of the following two schemes:
(1) Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) 2022/23 (Preliminary Proposals)
There are two types of grants under CRF 2022/23: Collaborative Research Project Grant (Research Grant) and Collaborative Research Equipment Grant (Equipment Grant). The Grants aim to provide funding for:
(a) collaborative research across disciplines and/or universities; and
(b) acquisition of major research facilities or equipment, including provide funding for group user fee to access major user facilities.
Renewal Funding
Project Coordinators (PCs) of Research Grant may apply for “renewal” funding. In this exercise, applications for “renewal” funding are invited from group research projects that were funded in 2018/19 and 2019/20. For the projects funded in 2019/20, the research teams may choose to defer their “renewal” applications to the next exercise.

Normally up to 3 years
Funding Threshold
HK$2 million to HK$10 million per project

Deadline
8 February 2022 (Tuesday)
All applications MUST be submitted through the RGC Electronic System https://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk by the deadline. Please observe the internal deadline and note that late applications will not be guaranteed for successful submission.
(2) Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG) (NEW)
The YCRG aims to support early-stage academic staff members in gaining first-hand experience in leading and managing collaborative research, so that they will be better prepared in competing for larger collaborative research funding in the next stage of their career. A budget of $50 million is designated for such scheme. Only group research proposals can apply for YCRG and no equipment proposals will be considered. Interested applicant please also take note of the above-mentioned “Points to Note” for the CRF 2022/23 exercise.

Internal Deadline
14 February 2022 (Monday) (5 pm) for Expression of Interest submission to RO
Notes for Applicants:
- Interested faculty members, should send an Expression of Interest to Research Office (via rodonald@ust.hk) before 5 pm, 14 February 2022 (Monday). Submissions after the deadline will not be considered.
- Shortlisted applicants should submit the completed application form to RO on 6 April 2022 (Wednesday) (5 pm) for compliance checking before submitting to the RGC.
Timelines for tasks & Deadline:

| Early November 2022 | Universities being informed of the shortlisted project team for interview |
| Early January 2023 | RGC to announce the funding results |
Important Reminder
Interested applicant can ONLY submit ONE application as PC under CRF 2022/23 (Research Grant or Equipment Grant) or YCRG exercise in each funding cycle.
