Before enrolling in university, most students complete 12 years of study at public or government-aided schools, where English is one of the compulsory subjects. Although the education system in Hong Kong ranks high in the world and a lot of public resources has been spent on education (especially in promoting the use of ICT), the claim that standards of English are falling in Hong Kong can still be heard from time to time. In this session, we invite three experts to talk about their experience in the current and future development of English education. The panel will discuss the following:
- - What are the strengths and weaknesses of the education systems in Hong Kong and the UK?
- - Is English standard really falling in Hong Kong, as claimed?
- - Is grammar learning in schools still important?
