玄龜呈瑞 - 謝春玲甲骨文書法作品展 The Blessings of Auspicious Treasures: Oracle Bone Calligraphy Exhibition of Xie Chunling

09:00am - 09:00pm
香港科技大學李兆基圖書館地下 唐炳源唐温金美展覽廳 Ping Yuan and Kinmay W Tang Gallery, G/F, Lee Shau Kee Library, HKUST

Oracle bone inscriptions (甲骨文) are one of the earliest known forms of systematic Chinese writing, dating back to the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BCE). Primarily engraved on the scapulae of oxen or the interior of tortoise shells, the inscriptions mark the beginning of Chinese civilization’s recorded history.

The exhibition will feature more than 40 pieces of oracle bone calligraphy works by Dr. Xie Chunling. In addition, it will also showcase six oracle bones borrowed from University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) of HKU. This will be the first time for these bones to be shown to the public after a very long period of time. There will also be multimedia presentations to create a deeply engaging visual experience.

Dr. Xie Chunling is a renowned expert in calligraphy of Chinese ancient writings and oracle bone inscriptions. She is a former Senior Lecturer at the Yale-China Chinese Language Centre at CUHK. She has published many academic articles and two monographs and exhibited her calligraphy works in Hong Kong and overseas.
