Towards the 6GB IoT: Joint Designs of Communication, Computing and Caching for Fog-Radio Access Network

With the upsurge of IoT applications, fog-radio access network (FRAN), which features fog

computing, or mobile edge computing (MEC), has emerged as a promising solution to satisfy the growing

demand for low-latency and computation-intensive services in the 6GB mobile networks by harnessing the

synergy between the cloud and the edge. In this talk, we focus on pursuing secure, sustainable, scalable

and smart (4S) IoT in three use cases, with emphasis on the integrated design of communication,

computing and caching (3C) for FRAN. We first propose a (robust) self-sustainable harvest-and-jam

protocol, which enables cooperative jamming against eavesdroppers by wireless power transfer, thus

improving on the secrecy transmission in a multi-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay wiretap channel.

Then, we introduce a D2D-enabled cooperative MEC system, where a local user solicits its nearby wireless

devices for low-latency computation by joint task assignment and resource allocation. Furthermore,

motivated by scenarios where parameter server (PS) based distributed learning is unavailable or

undesirable, federated learning (FL) over wireless D2D networks is discussed, for which we provide

theoretical insights into the performance of both wireless digital and analog implementations. Finally,

some future directions of research are proposed identifying ethical aspects of future mobile network

innovation.

Dr. Hong Xing is currently a Research Associate with the College of Electronic and

Information Engineering, Shenzhen University, China. She received the B.Eng. degree in Electronic

Sciences and Technologies and B.A. degree in English both from Zhejiang University, China, in 2011, and

the PhD degree in Wireless Communications from King's College London, U.K., in 2016. She was a Post

Doctoral Research Fellow with the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary

University of London, U.K., from Oct. 2017 to Jan. 2019, and with the Department of Informatics, King’ s

College London, U.K., from Feb. 2016 to Sept. 2017. Her research interests include edge learning, mobile

edge computing, non-orthogonal multiple access, wireless information and power transfer, and physical

layer security etc. She has more than 30 IEEE top journal/conference papers with two of them being ESI

highly cited paper, which has received more than 1000 citations with h-index of 15 in recent five years

according to Google Scholar.

She received the Best 50 of IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) 2014. She also

received the Examplary Reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Communications in 2019 and IEEE Wireless

Communications Letters in 2017. She is currently serving as Associate Editor for IEEE ACCESS. She has

also served as frequent Technical Program Committee Member for IEEE COMSOC flagship conferences,

as well as regular reviewers for several IEEE top journals/magazines.
