Public Research Seminar by Sustainable Energy and Environment Thrust - Advance Frontier of Direct Wireless Energy Conversion for Smart Homes and Electric Vehicles

1:30pm - 2:30pm
ZOOM (ID: 961 7830 7121; Password: 131013)

Wireless power transfer has been widely used for many applications, from charging small household appliances to big electric vehicles, without involving any physical contacts. All of them are essentially based on electrochemical power conversion and the transferred energy is stored in batteries. These batteries will be discharged to reproduce electrical power for various applications, such as powering other electric heaters, electric lamps, electromechanical motors and electric vehicles. In this seminar, a new theme of direct wireless energy conversion (DWEC) systems is revealed and discussed, which serves to wirelessly and directly immigrate the energy to various electrical loads. Operation principles and emerging applications of these DWEC systems, namely the wireless heating, wireless lighting, wireless motor and wireless charging, are elaborated.
