Abstract: In this presentation, I will draw on several interconnected projects and publications to highlight the social, spatial and demographic characteristics of energy end-use in Europe. I focus on energy poverty – a situation characterised by a household’s inability to secure the energy they need in the home in order to live a healthy life and participate in society. I highlight the multi-scalar differences in the drivers, experience and consequences of energy poverty: from the international to the individual level. I draw attention to the common elements of energy inequalities across different contexts, and the implications for global energy and social science research as a whole.
