Frontier Technologies Seminars 2021 by HKUST-BDR Joint Research Institute – on topics in Green Buildings for Dual-Carbon Goals & Indoor Positioning

2:30pm - 5:30pm

HKUST-BDR Joint Research Institute (HBJRI) will organize an online Frontier Technologies Seminar on 16 Sept 2021 (Thursday). Prof. Jinglei YANG from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and Dr. Min GAO from Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute (FYTRI) will give seminars on topics as below:

Preliminary Review on the Integrative Innovation Systems in Green Buildings for Dual-Carbon Goals

Professor Jinglei YANG

Building carbon emissions account for a significant proportion of the national total industrial chain carbon emissions. Therefore, quantifying the distribution of energy consumption and carbon emissions at each stage of the life cycle of a typical building and exploring an effective integrated innovation system for green buildings is a necessary path to achieve the Dual-Carbon Goal. This report systematically reviews the carbon-neutral technology approach from an academic perspective, quantifies and evaluates the potential of different integrated innovation strategies for building energy conservation and emission reduction throughout the life cycle. Based on the cutting-edge interdisciplinary research results of the professors at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in this direction, the green building integrated innovation system and plan are initially proposed, which provides cutting-edge exploration and guidance for the transition to the dual-carbon goal.

Indoor Positioning and Indoor Map

Dr. Min GAO

This report introduces how to use the existing light footprint indoor map engine to upgrade and optimize the large-scale Building Information Modelling (BIM) data model and cooperate to complete the data verification of the BIM data conversion system to realize the docking of BIM data and the mobile terminal map engine. Let BIM data be smoothly loaded and rendered on the mobile map engine. Realized the mobile terminal operation and maintenance platform, terminal map, and road network data construction and verification. Deploy Bluetooth positioning terminals in the use area to meet the accuracy requirements of mobile terminal operation and maintenance management services and provide location and equipment facility (spatial) data services for mobile terminal operation and maintenance management scenarios.

All UST staff and students are welcome to attend the seminar and explore potential ways of collaboration on mutually interesting research projects.
