Call for Proposals – Macular Degeneration Research Program (MDR)

to

BrightFocus Foundation is inviting proposals for the Macular Degeneration Research (MDR) program. The MDR program provides research funds for U.S. domestic as well as international researchers pursuing pioneering research leading to greater understanding, prevention, and treatment of age-related macular degeneration. It offers three types of awards:

 

(1) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

This fellowship program is intended to support young postdoctoral researchers during their final stages of mentored training.

 

Eligibility

Candidates must hold an MD, PhD or equivalent degree received no more than four years before the time of application.

 

Funding Limit and Project Duration

US$200,000 for 2 years (US$100,000 per year)

 

(2) New Investigator Grant Program

This research grant is intended to support investigators during their early years as an independent investigator involved in studies that have an impact on the causes and/or treatment of macular degeneration.

 

Eligibility

New and early investigators who have received their MD, PhD or equivalent degree within the past 10 years at the time of application. Applicant must serve as the Principal Investigator on the project and have independent laboratory space.

 

Funding Limit and Project Duration

US$450,000 for 3 years (US$150,000 per year)

 

(3) Innovative Research Grants

This program is intended to provide support for high-risk/high-gain age-related macular degeneration research.

 

Eligibility

Full-time academic staff, except previous recipients of this award, is eligible to apply. Applicant must serve as the Principal Investigator on the project and have independent laboratory space.

 

Funding Limit and Project Duration

US$600,000 for 3 years (US$200,000 per year)

  1. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) online through proposalCENTRAL.
  2. Please send the Letter of Intent to Research Office (RO) by the internal deadline for review prior to formal submission.
